The NVA made plans and tried to execute their plans to dissect Vietnam in half around Pleiku. They wanted to cut off all of our forces north of Pleiku from being resupplied. They tried and succeeded in cutting off the French in 1955 thus winning their war with the French. I saw this on the History Channel one day. Just a couple of weeks ago a man by the name of Warren Wilkison contacted me by email. He is writing a book about the Involvement of 1/8, 3/8, and 3/12 Infantry units, in the action Known as “The Nine Days in May.” He has interviewed Many veterans from both the 1/8th, and the 2/12th, But is having difficulty finding enough to interview from the Dragoons 3/8th. This was a major battle in Vietnam, We won the Presidential Unit Citation. I gave Warren the full story of our “Battle of Plei Doch”!

My Dad survived this battle and did not want us to read the article, but mentioned that he was 4th Infantry Division. Reading the article and all that was endured is absolutely horrific. He passed away Jan. 3rd, 2013.

We honor your Father, Lisa. I am sorry that he camee to the end of his life so soon. Maybe it was for the best in the long run. I had the honor of serving with The 4th Infantry Division in Viet Nam. We had a great bunch of guys. Some did not make it back home alive. Most did and I for one feel very Fortunate to have made it.
May God Bless You And Yours just as I Feel He Has Already Blessed Your Father.

I also served with The 4th Infantry Division in View Nam in 1966 and 1967. We were a bunch of draftees that turned into some pretty good fighting men. We were all brothers.

I was in the 4th Div, but not until 69. I used to talk every weekend to a great guy who was in this battle. I recently found out he died. I would really like to find any information on Bob. He was a sergeant, from Michigan. Anyone remember talking with Bob? He was a great talker.

I was in the 4th division and was in this battle. I was not in the infantry, but I was in the 6th 29th artillery , A battery, that was attached to the 1st of 8th infantry. If any one wants to read about the artillery side of this you can go to the

My brother, PFC. Michael Conrad Roell, died during one battle of “Nine Days In May,” 1967.
I need to contact, at least, three eyewitnesses, who saw what PFC. Roell did; why he did it, and under what circumstances.
Those men whose lives he saved – directly and indirectly – “CO. C; 3BN. 8INF.; 4 INF. DIV., sent a dozen Antheriums from “Rusty’s Florist, PO Box 272, Wahiawa, HI., and a few days later, sent a three-paged letter, addressed to: Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Roell.
The first page, wrote of their son’s bravery, and towards the end of this first page, and wanted his parents to know that “their son did not die for nothing”; the second-page, was hand-signed, top to bottom, left to right, and the third page, top to middle, left to right.
All totaled, about 25 hand-signed signatures; I need these man to come forward, to help this brother, help his death brother to be “Considered” for The Medal Of The Honor.

I was with the Recon Platoon with the 1st of the 8th only three months in country at the time of tis battle.

Recon Plt. reinforced B 1/8 INF. Thankfully they had a lot of M-60s when our side was hit with ground assaults. See YOUNG SOLDIERS AMAZING WARRIORS and NINE DAYS IN MAY. Both books are on Amazon.

I’m sorry I didn’t include 1 important piece of information, I apologize!
I also met a few more of you guys at a Ceremony in which Lou Macarelli brought back the St. Christopher medallion that my Father Raymond J. Borowski gave him in Vietnam, just before he was airlifted out, and Presented it to my Mother, Patricia A.Borowski, Paprocki and our family. My Mother was Honored. She Cherished it. She passed away Dec. 24, 2014. She really LOVED everyone she met!!
